Disgraced Lostprophets Singer Ian Watkins Dies in Prison Attack
Ian Watkins, the former lead singer of the band Lostprophets, has died after being assaulted in prison.
The incident occurred on Saturday morning at HMP Wakefield, a high-security facility in West Yorkshire. Authorities confirmed the disgraced rock star was attacked and pronounced dead at the scene.
Watkins, from Pontypridd, Wales, was serving a 29-year sentence for a series of horrific child sex offences. His 2013 trial revealed disturbing details, including the attempted rape of an infant. The sentencing judge had described him as a determined paedophile.
This was not his first violent encounter in prison. He survived a previous attack in August 2023.
West Yorkshire Police are investigating the death. The two mothers of the children he abused were also convicted in the case, receiving sentences of 14 and 17 years.
